Leilah Dhoré

Leilah Dhoré is a lens-based media and collage artist living, working and studying in Toronto. Their practice is driven by desire for an expansive comprehension of the self and belonging, while living in a paradigm defined by the illusion of separation to justify the destruction of land, extraction of “resources”, by exploitation and exclusion of marginalized beings.

Grounded in diasporic Black, Caribbean and South Asian ancestral influence and experience, Leilah contends with the liminality of time and space through the contradictions generated within, reflecting inequitable material conditions fixated on scarcity while disregarding abundance. Their creative practice is rooted in the wisdom embodied by the racialized, mad, neurodivergent, disabled, queer, and economically disenfranchised.
